Veteran journalist and Chief Editor Dinamina newspaper Mahinda Abeysundera completes 50 years in journalism today. A special ceremony
themed ‘Mahinda Abeysundera - A review of 50 years’ media brilliance’
will be held at the Foundation Institute today under the patronage of
President Mahinda Rajapaksa to felicitate this veteran media personality
who made an indelible imprint in the print and electronic media during
the last 50 years.

Chief incumbent of Dharmayathanaya, Colombo 7, Ven Elle Gunawansa
Thera will chair the meeting. The key note address will be delivered by
Chairman of the National Tobacco and Alcohol Authority Prof Carlo
Fonseka. A website of Mahinda Abeysundera will also be launched on this
occasion. Abeysundera who was born in the South started his journalistic
career by joining the Dawasa newspaper in 1961.
His name became famous for well over 50 years in Sinhala journalism
and the select vocabulary he uses in the Vimasuma program over the
Independent Television Network, mesmerizes a vast audience.
He writes of men and matters far, from politics to arts in a lucid
manner that attracts a wide readership.
Abeysundera writes articles and editorials based on a wide array of
subjects with equal dexterity and a style of his own. Abeysundera is an
eminent Sinhala editorial writer whose editorials showcase his
journalistic skills.
A souvenir on Abeysundera and book on Vimasuma will also be launched
on this occasion. Prime Minister D.M. Jayaratne, Economic Development
Minister Basil Rajapaksa and a large number of Cabinet Ministers and
media persons will participate in the felicitation ceremony. |
