Super luxury bus service for Southern Expressway

The government will deploy two super luxury Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) buses to transport passengers on the Southern Expressway, which will be opened on November 27.

The super luxury bus service will be inaugurated from Galle on November 27.

Super luxury bus services will be operated between Kottawa and Galle, SLTB chairman M D Bandusena said.

He said two super luxury buses will operate initially on the expressway.

The number of buses will be increased according to the needs. Bandusena added that high standard buses were purchased by the SLTB with a concern for passenger safety.

"Well experienced drivers and luxury coaches are a must to operate transport services on the expressway and we have trained drivers in this regard," he said.

The SLTB has bought buses from the Lanka Ashok Leyland Company. The value of a 41-seat super luxury bus is Rs 10 million.

Interchanges in major destinations are Makumbura to Kotte and Dehiwela, Kahatuduwa to Moratuwa, Gelanigama to Panadura and Wadduwa, Dodangoda to Kalutara and Matugama, Lewwanduwa to Beruwala and Bentota, Kurundugahahetekma to Balapitiya and Ambalangoda, Nayapamula to Hikkaduwa, Pinnaduwa to Galle, Deegoda to Weligama, Kokmaduwa to Weligama and Godagama to Matara.

All these access points would have toll collecting centres.

He said SLTB has given the route allocation of 40 percent while private buses were granted the balance 60 percent of route allocations by the NTC.
