All suspects in Katukele jewellery shop robbery arrested

Kandy Police on Saturday arrested the suspects involved in the
robbery of a jewellery shop in Katukele, Kandy. Gold and money worth Rs.
35 million was stolen from the jewellery shop by the robbers disguised
as Army and Police personnel.
Police also seized the haul of stolen gold jewellery.
The robbery took place on May 21 night and the police were able to
arrest all suspects within 10 days of the incident.
A retired sailor and a soldier attached to the Sports Unit of the
Gannoruwa Army Camp were among the seven suspects. Two businessmen in
the Mawathagama area who bought the gold jewellery from the suspects
were also among the arrested.
The Police also discovered a cab, hybrid vehicle and three wheeler
used in the robbery. |
