Giant asteroid safely sails past Earth
A huge asteroid sailed safely past Earth Friday
afternoon, making its closest approach to our planet for at least
the next two centuries. Asteroid 1998 QE2, which is about 1.7 miles
(2.7 kilometres) wide, cruised within 3.6 million miles (5.8 million
km) of Earth at 4:59 p.m. EDT (2059 GMT) on Friday, then slipped
silently off into the depths of space once again.

Matt Smith quits BBC’s Doctor Who
The BBC is on the hunt for a new Time Lord after
British actor Matt Smith announced on Saturday that he is quitting
as the star of cult sci-fi drama Doctor Who. Smith, who has played
the eccentric, time-travelling Doctor since 2010, said he would bow
out in a special Christmas episode of the 50-year-old show and a new
star would take over at the helm of his spaceship, the Tardis.

Oklahoma counts dead, wounded from new tornadoes, flash floods
Less than two weeks after deadly tornadoes
ravaged Moore and south Oklahoma City, Oklahomans are once again
counting their dead and wounded. Fourteen people were killed in
Friday night’s tornadoes and ensuing flash floods and another 104
were injured.
