Saunders meets Ratnam today at City Football Complex

Saunders SC vie with Ratnam SC at City Football Complex grounds today at 3.30pm in he final of the Phoneix Cup Invitation Footbal Tournament 2013. It will be a tough battle as many experienced and former national players dribble the ball in both teams.

Oraganized by the City Football League and sponsored by Phoenix the tournament saw eight teams (Blue Star (Kalutara), Colombo F C, Java Lane, Negombo Youth, New Youngs (Wennappuwa), Ratnam, Renown, Saunders SC ) vying for supremacy on a knock out basis. In the quarter finals, Saunders defeated Renown SC by penalties at 4-2 after having being drawn 2-2. The semi final with Java Lane also ended in a draw when both teams scored 2 goals each. Saunders managed to enter the final in a penalty shoot out ended in favour of them by 4-3.

Ratnam beat Negombo Youth 3-0 in their first quarter finals and went onto to defeat New Youngs, Wennappuwa by 2-1 in the semi final.

Former national skipper Rohana Ruwanthilake and former national players Isuru Uditha Perera Dimuthu Hettiarachchi, Sudara Madusanka, Asanka Viraj ( Goal Keeper ) all strengthen the Saunder camp. Thier opponent, Ratnam is equipped with former natinal players, E B Channa, M N M Isadeen, Sinnavan Srikanth, B shiwanka. Saunders SC is coached by Manjula Sirisena while Mohammed Noordeen coaches Ratnam SC.
