Woman remanded for swindling money

A woman who swindled Rs 110,000 from a man promising employment in the government sector was sentenced to a 10-year suspended imprisonment by the Balapitiya magistrate. The Police reported the woman obtained the money from the man, a resident of Ambalangoda promising him a job at the Port Authority.

The CCD led investigations after a complaint was lodged by the victim at Ambalangoda Police. The CCD arrested her and produced her before the Balapitiya Magistrate's Court. The woman who was found guilty was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment.

As the woman has children who are still schooling, the magistrate suspended the imprisonment to a 10- year-period.
