Oppn engaged in 'third class' politics - Dilum
The Opposition is involved in 'Third Class' politics while President
Mahinda Rajapaksa is making efforts to improve the conditions of the
country, Kandy district MP Dilum Amunugama said.
Amunugama who is also the SLFP's chief organiser in Senkadagala,
addressing the Maha Sanga at his Nugawela political office, said the
Opposition is attempting to push the country backwards.
"From what ever angle the problem is viewed, the President's efforts
to ensure peace and stability in the country, should not be under-rated
under any circumstances," he said.
Amunugama said in that context, it is necessary to point out that the
President has given leadership to those endeavours.
"Efforts to underestimate the President's contributions will be made
only by persons afflicted with jealousy and dishonesty. In the days when
the country was faced with terrorism, one did not know as to whether a
person who left home, would even return back. When in an era of fear of
scepticism and death threats, the nation's prayer was to defeat
terrorism and usher peace and tranquility," he said.
That became a reality when the President made a revolution to uplift
the conditions of the people and the country. However, when the
President is making those efforts, the opposition is attempting to turn
back the clock and hamper the progress of the country. It is child's
play for the President who defeated the world's terrorists, to defeat
the Opposition's third class politics, Amunugama said.
He said the President is a person who solves problems after
investigating the causes for such problems.
"He has the courage to face the public. He is one who looks into the
needs of the people. He meets the people at various fora. He conducts
mobile services. He reviews complaints from the public. He ascertains
the weaknesses in the public service," Amunugama said.
"One can engage in politics only by rendering services to the people,
by listening to the grievances of the public and by providing
opportunities for self-criticism," he said.
"The President's efforts to develop the country economically,
socially and culturally is applauded by the people because they have
understood his genuine intentions," Amunugama said.
