‘Demise an irreparable loss’

Jayathilaka Podinilame was a mature politician who rendered a sterling service to the nation as a Chief Minister, Provincial Council Opposition Leader and Vice-Chairman and non-Cabinet rank Minister. His demise is an irreparable loss to the Sabaragamuwa Province and the country at large, said Sabaragamuwa Chief Minister in a condolence message issued yesterday.

The message added that Podinilame particularly rendered a pioneering service to uplift backward and difficult villages. Getting an opportunity to represent both the Sabaragamuwa PC and Parliament from time to time from 1988 to 2012, he served the ordinary masses generously by sharing his knowledge and experience with other peoples representatives.

People of Sabaragamuwa will gratefully remember the way he acted in the political arena with a wide vision without confining himself to political party dogmas.

The greatest achievement in his political life was his decision to shed his party agenda and join hands with the national agenda.

He exhibited his patriotism by supporting the UPFA to ensure the victory of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the desired moment.

May he attain Nibbana!
