Trader with outdated tins of salmon fined

The Mahara Kadawata Magistrate imposed a Rs 6,000 fine on a trader
for possessing outdated 314 tins of salmon.
The magistrate also ordered police to destroy the stock.

Workshop
A one- day workshop on Patriotism and the role of Media is held to
mark the World Press Freedom Day on May 3 at 9 am at the Media
Development Centre Auditorium of the Government Information Department,
presided by Mass Media and Information Minister Keheliya Rambukwella
with the participation of Mass Media and Information Secretary Charitha
Herath.
Lectures will be conducted on, National Development and News
Reporting, Media Activities in a Patriotic Society, Cultural Diversity
and News Reporting and Media Policies, Media Rules, Ethics and Sri
Lanka.
Thereafter, a panel discussion will be held with the participation of
media heads.

D G Rishantha of Udupittaniya, Kotadupe, Telijjawila, is suffering
from a profound hearing loss on both ears following a bout of pneumonia
three years ago. Consultant ENT Surgeon Dr Shantha Perera has
recommended a cochlear implant to restore his hearing.
This facility is estimated to cost Rs 1.7 million. Rishantha's father
Somadasa Dampella Gamage says he is unable to foot this bill due to
their financial plight. He requests the public to assist his son's cause
by sending possible financial contributions to help expedite the
cochlear implant and enable him to restart normal life.
