The provision of power to every family in the Southern region who are
without electricity, is the cherished goal of the Ceylon Electricity
Board, Ceylon Electricity Board Southern Regional Deputy General Manager
H. A. G. Pushpakumara said.
Over 99.6 percent of the power requirement of families in the
Southern Province have currently been fulfilled by the Ceylon
Electricity Board. Construction work on all large scale power projects
in the South are complete and construction activities on small scale
electricity schemes are speedily being carried out.
They are expected to finish before the end of this year, Pushpakumara
said. Plans are afoot to establish electricity sub depots and install
transformers to boost the power supply of consumers in the Southern
region. All these electricity projects in the region were initiated
under the ‘Lighting Sri Lanka’ National Development Programme of the
government, Pushpakumara said.
