ANCL Chairman Bandula Padmakumara met Wijewardena first as a graphic
artist attached to 'Tharunee' women's magazine published by Lake House.
"It gave me the greatest pleasure to have met him and also encourage
him in his creative sojourn. As every artist he too prefers to handle
the paint brush as an instrument to reveal his inner feeling and ideas.
In the telephone conversation he had with me he requested me to browse
his website and view his creative fantasies. It is with warm heart I
send these good wishes for his latest painting exhibition. If it was
held in Sri Lanka I would definitely visit it almost everyday. Now I
will only have the opportunity to view his creative work from his
website. Again I wish him all the luck for his future endeavours."
Padmakumara said.
Adelaide Illustrators Illustrator and founding member Harry Slaghekke
met Wijewardena when the latter had his first exhibition in South
Australia. He had been impressed with Wijewardena's artistic ability.
"Charith came from an artistic background, and was a well established
artist in Sri Lanka. He has excellent mixed media skills ranging from
the traditional canvases to digital media illustration, and he has been
a member of the Adelaide Illustrators where he has been noticed for his
skill and versatility. As a founding member of the Adelaide Illustrators
as well as the state representative of illustrators Australia, I am
extremely impressed with his technical ability and his motivation. His
creativity, sensitivity and originality is evident in every project,
whether it is a drawing assignment, fashion sketch or canvas painting.
Charith is an intuitive artist, and an asset to the Adelaide Arts
Industry and I would like to wish him all the success with his first
exhibition." Slaghekke said.
Charith belongs to a famous artistic family background in Sri Lanka.
His father is a famous artist who is still contributing for Sri Lankan
Arts community. He started working at Lake House as a graphic artist in
the Graphic Art Department. After 18 years he left ANCL as a Chief
Artist/Head of graphics and layout.
"I started my own design studio in Colombo Sri Lanka and maintained a
large client base in the community who benefit from my Mix Media skills.
I migrated to Australia under Skilled Migration having the future hope
of establishing as an artist in 2009.
I am humbly happy to state that I am an all-round Artist who is very
capable of using most techniques and methods in drawing field in oil
painting, water color painting, abstract, acrylic and digital. I name my
exhibition as Seen/Unseen exactly because I want the viewer to get the
advantage of the things that I have seen and created but they have not.
Even if they have seen, I would like them to compare, think, understand
and notice the values and unique points that they haven't thought of. I
strongly believe the artist is the person who could show others of a
future world and a sci fi fantasy and Artistic projects can speak for
itself and whatever it says to the viewer - it's the right message
because there isn't a wrong and a right message." Wijewardena said.
Added he: "I feel happy because I can satisfy my soul as I have
entertained the community while sharing hope, compassion and a message
with that. Finally I thank God and praise him for giving me this amazing
talent and I want to dedicate my exhibition to my father Anura
Wijewardane who showed me the great artistic path as my teacher,"
Charith Wijewardane concluded.
