Man arrested with grenade

Meegahawatte Police arrested a suspect with a locally made hand grenade and a kris knife in his possession at a check point.

Police stopped his motorbike and detected the illegal weapons. Interrogation from the suspect revealed information about several crimes carried out in Warakapola, Wennappuwa and Meerigama. Police are investigating.

Three held with heroin, cannabis

Three suspects were arrested with 3.560 grams of heroin and two kilograms of Kerala Cannabis in their possession in Galle and Welimada by Police. The first suspect was arrested at Kaluwella, Galle and was produced in Galle magistrate court yesterday. Welimada Police, acting on information received, arrested the other two in Keppetipola. The 41 and 17 year old suspects, residents of Jaffna were produced in Welimada Magistrate Courts yesterday.

Boy drowns

A 16 year old youth drowned in Uyanwatte tank while bathing with friends. Bandaragama Police commenced a search operation to find the body of the victim. M Dhanushka Deshan of Keselwatte, Panadura faced the mishap.

Wanted men arrested

Athurugiriya Police on Tuesday arrested three suspects wanted in connection with several chain snatching incidents carried out in Athurugiriya, Talangama and Kelaniya. Police recovered part of the loot, pawing receipts and a three wheeler from their possession.

The arrest was made when Police stopped a motorbike, two of the suspects riding with covered number plates. Interrogations from them revealed about the third suspect and a series of crimes they had committed. Further investigations are continuing.

Duplicate film CDs, porn seized

The Mathugama Magistrate released two suspects arrested in possession of CDs with duplicate copies of Sinhala films and a collection of CDs with sexual content on Rs 200,000 sureties each on Tuesday. Mathugama Police arrested them at a communication centre in Agalawatte.
