President visits Parliament

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday visited Parliament and attended
Parliamentary sessions for nearly half an hour. He arrived around 3.10
pm and was warmly welcomed by the Ministers and Members of Parliament.
Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa was presiding. The debate on four bills,
namely the Inland Revenue (Amendment) Bill, Notaries (Amendment) Bill,
Registration of Documents (Amendment) Bill and Powers of Attorney
(Amendment) Bill were in progress and UNP MP Eran Wickramaratne was
delivering his speech at the time of the President's arrival.
President Rajapaksa left the chamber around 3.40 pm.
According to the provisions of the 18th Amendment to the
Constitution, the President should attend Parliamentary sessions at
least once in three months. |
