Deshamanya for Dr Senevirathne
Dr K.G.P.S. Senevirathne of Polhena, Matara was presented the
Deshamanya title at an official ceremony in Colombo.
The award was presented by Presidential Adviser and MP A. H. M. Azwer
on behalf of the Speaker.
Dr Seneviratne is a medical practitioner in Polhena, Matara.
Dr Seneviratne, after completing his degree at the University of
Ruhuna, entered Ratnapura General Hospital.
Since then, he has been the Senior House Officer at Matara Base
Hospital, District Medical Officer at Akuressa District Hospital and
Medical Officer in Charge at Vocational Health Centre, Habaraduwa.
He also became a member of the club of distinguished professionals
who received this highest rank award for the field they dedicated over
the years of their life.
Deshamanya (Pride of the Nation) is the second highest Sri Lankan
national honour (after the Sri Lankabhimanya) awarded by the Sri Lankan
government as a civil honour to citizens of the country.
The awardees of Deshamanya so far include academics, architects,
artists, businessmen, civil servants, military personnel and
politicians.
