Visakha Vidyalaya excels at O-L:

Records highest number of A 9s

Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo has emerged the best in the island recording the highest number of A 9 passes numbering 172 at the 2012 GCE Ordinary Level examination.

Out of the 392 students who sat the examination, 390 students or 99.5 percent qualified to follow Advanced Level courses.

Compared to the two previous years, the number of students with A 9 passes has increased. It was 34 percent in 2010, 38.7 percent in 2011 and 44 percent in 2012. In 2010 and 2011 O- L examinations, the school had the student with the best results islandwide.

The school has excelled continuously at previous GCE O-L and A-L examinations. According to the Performance Index released by the Research and Development Branch of the Examinations Department, the school recorded the best performance at the 2012 G C E A- L examination in the Science and Maths streams and obtained the third place in the Commerce and Arts streams.

According to the University Grants Commission, 52 students qualified to enter the Medical Faculty, 50 students qualified to follow management courses, 38 entered the bio- science stream and 21 for engineering at the 2011 A- L examination. Thus, the total number of students qualified for university entrance for 2011/2012 is 343.
