Thihagoda needs cooperative wholesale outlet

The residents of the Thihgoda Divisional Secretariat Division area are in need of a Cooperative Wholesale Establishment sales outlet in the Thihagoda town.

The population in the division are nearly 90,000. A private trade monopoly is prevalent in the Thihagoda town and surrounding areas.

Residents have to visit Matara, Kamburupitiya or Hakmana main towns to purchase even their day to day essentials at reasonable rates. The people have to cover 10 to 15 kilometres to reach those towns, they said.

This issue was taken up at the monthly meetings of the Thihagoda Pradeshiya Sabha.

It is said that the absence of a suitable building in the Thihagoda town has been the biggest hindrance to opening a sales outlet.
