Samurdhi dues to be given before Avurudhu

Leader of the House and Irrigation and Water Resources Management Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva yesterday said in Parliament that arrears of the

Samurdhi allowance and the Samurdhi allowance due for April would be issued before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year.

The minister made this comment in response to a question by DNA MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake under Standing Order 23 (2).

He said measures have been taken to release Rs 7,028 million to Samurdhi banks through the District Secretariats to provide the Samurdhi allowance and its arrears.

De Silva said Rs 5,865 million has been released to pay the arrears while Rs1,163 million would be released before the Sinhala and Tamil New Year for the Samurdhi allowance for April.

Dissanayake said over 1.5 million Samurdhi beneficiaries have been inconvenienced due to not receiving the Samurdhi allowance.
