Rouge traders face the music

A team of officers attached to the Anuradhapura Regional Health
Services Office raided 30 shops which had kept food items unfit for
human consumption for sale during the New Year season and arrested the
owners for flouting consumer protection laws.
They also seized stocks of food items which were outdated or unfit
for consumption.
These included 18 bags of rice (10 kgs each), 117 kgs of rotten dried
fish, 140 litres of inferior oil of various brands and outdated
flavouring, cadju and ground nuts etc.
A spokesman for the Regional Health Services Office said the traders
were due to be produced before court.
Meanwhile, officers attached to the Health Service Office raided four
beauty salons in Anuradhapura town and arrested their owners for running
them in a manner harmful to the health of their customers.
They were produced before Anuradhapura Additional Magistrate Chandima
Edirimanna and fined Rs 10,000 each.
