Baseless allegations against govt – Nandimithra

The United National Party and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna are trying to tarnish the government’s image levelling baseless allegations over the issue of the Matale mass grave, Deputy Higher Education Minister Nandimithra Ekanayake said. The deputy minister said the government has taken measures to conduct a full scale inquiry into this incident to identify parties responsible.

Ekanayake said on the advice of the President, a Presidential Commission has been appointed to conduct a full scale probe.

“The government will take legal action against those involved,” he told a media briefing at the Higher Education Ministry.

The deputy minister said investigations conducted so far have revealed that the grave is a result of the 1987-1990 terror period.

DIG Premadasa Udugampola was in-charge of the Central Province during the 1986-1990 period of the Matale mass grave.

The then UNP government is responsible for the mass grave, Ekanayake said.
