The Sri Lanka Ex Army Women's Association organized a Sil campaign under the theme of "Piliwethin Pela Gesemu " to mark International Women's Day on March 8. The event was held at Sri Sambodhi Vihara at Gregorys Road Colombo 7 under the guidance of Daranagama Kusaladamma Thera.

Over one hundred Ex Army, Air Force and Navy women observed Sil on this day and the event concluded with a Perehera and Gilanpasa Pooja in the evening. Presidents of Seva Vanitha units of the three forces, Sri Lanka Police and Defence Ministry were invited to this event.

A group of war widows from Ranaviru Family Counselling Service and members of the families of women soldiers killed in action also participated at this Sil campaign. This is the first time that such a programme was arranged to mark the International Women's Day in Sri Lanka.

The objective of this programme was to set an example to the society through disciplined retired women in the three forces.
