People’s Bank Hockey Super Sevens on April 6 and 7

A record number of entries have been received for the 10th All Island Schools (boys and girls) clubs (men and women) “People;s Bank Hockey Super Sevens” organized by Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy and sponsored by Peoples Bank which will be worked off at the Asgiriya Stadium, Kandy on Saturday and Sunday (April 6th and 7th with play commencing at 8 am each.

Chief Convener of the tournament M A M Ashroff said that this championship will be worked off according to the latest rules of the International Hockey Federation and four matches will be played simultaneously in four courts drawn in the playing area of the stadium.

Players representing the schools will have to be under 19 years and they will have provide evidence of their age with the necessary and valid documents. Teams not having the relevant documents before the commencement of their respective matches will face the prospect of being disqualified. A team cannot state that they have left behind the birth certificates or identity cards in their respective schools and they will be disqualified.

The schools teams in their own interest should bring these documents when they arrive at the grounds.

The Mayor of Kandy Mahendra Ratwatte will be the chief guest at the opening ceremony on Saturday which will be followed by a drill display accompanied by the Eastern and Western bands of the schools.

The chief guest at the closing ceremony will be the Senior Manager – Peoples Bank, Kandy, President of Kandy Association Football League and former Sri Lanka goal keeper Kapila Dissanayake.

Seetha Devi Balika Vidyalaya should be complimented for organizing this hockey championship on a grand scale every year and is one of the most looked forward events in the hill capital.

Colombo District: Yasodara Vidyalaya, Gothami Balika Vidyalaya, Ladies College, Visakha Vidyalaya.

Badulla District: Vihara Maha Devi Balika Vidyalaya.

Matale District: Sangamittha Balika Vidyalaya, Christ Church Girls College, Vijaya Girls College.

Gampaha District: Yasodara Balika Vidyalaya, Visakha Vidyalaya Sapugaskanda.

Jaffna District: Uduvil Girls College.
Panadura District: Panadura Balika Vidyalaya, Sri Sumangala Girls College.
Kegalle District: St Joseph's Girls College.

Defending Champions: Vijaya College, Matale.
Runners up: Nalanda College.

Kandy District: Dharmaraja College, Vidyartha College, Kingswood College, St Sylvesters College, Sri Sumangala College, Trinity College, Menikdiwela Central College, Talau Oya Central College.

Colombo District: Ananda College, Nalanda College, St Benedicts College, Hindu College, Dharmaloka Vidyalaya, Asoka Vidyalaya, Wesley College, Prince of Wales College.
