Giant killers Rajans confront Science today

By virtue of their performance so far this season Dharmaraja College
should go out favourites when they take on the previous week's giant
killers Science College, Mount Lavinia in their school under 19 ‘A’
Division rugby tournament match to be played at the Bogambara Stadium
today, April 5 at 4.30 pm.
Though some of the school matches had been postponed due to HSBC Five
Nations Rugby tournament but this match will be played confirmed the
Master in Charge Rugby Dharmaraja College Saliya Alexander last morning.
The Rajans led by Rochana Hettiarachchi are going great guns this
season. In their first outing they stunned the last year's league
Runners up Trinity College to draw a match which they dominated largely
and it was only a last minute try by the lions which stopped them
scoring a historic win over Trinity in their own den at Pallekelle.
Next they took on the defending champions Isipathana College at the
Bogambara Stadium and what followed was a stunning 35-8 win for the
Rajans to take the third spot in the table of points.
What was amazing about the Rajans Victory was the manner in which
they performed this. They gave their opponents absolutely no chance to
stage a come back as by the time the game was 10 minutes old, they had
totted up a 15-0 lead and all the points were scored by their
effervescent full back Tilina Wijesinghe.
Their victory was scaled by a peach of 53 metre drop goal by Rochana
Hettiarachchi reminiscent of the execution by drop kick. Experts like
Mahinda Ratwatte, John Bousfieled, Nalaka Weerakkody and the late Dr
Lakdasa Dissanayake.
Science College on the other hand made a memorable start by defeating
Royal College 36-19 but in their next match they faced defeat in the
hands of Trinity College going down 11-18. But despite this the boys
from Mount Lavinia have the potential to create an upset. They are a
side who will not allow many liberties to their opponents.
Whatever the result may be an evening full of bruising rugby is in
store for the rugby fans. |
