Five nabbed while digging for artefacts

Five suspects, residents of Wattala, Kadawatha and Medirigiriya, were arrested by Medirigiriya Police yesterday around 3 am while digging a land in Nawa Nagaraya, Medirigiriya to find artefacts.

They were produced before the Hingurakgoda magistrate yesterday.


Two arrested with dud notes

Hungama Police arrested two suspects with five dud notes in the denomination of Rs 50 in Pallerota, Hungama.

The first suspect, a resident of Mamadala was arrested following a tip-off. The other was arrested after interrogating the first suspect. Police also took a scanner machine and ink used to print the dud notes.

They were produced before the Angunakolapelasse Magistrate's Court yesterday.


Man nabbed with heroin

A 32-year- old suspect was arrested with 2.200 grammes of heroin in 41 small packets in Mahara, Kadawatha on Wednesday night by Kadawata Police. He was produced before the Mahara Magistrate's Court yesterday. Meanwhile, another suspect was arrested with 11 grammes of heroin by Uragasmanhandiya Police. The 24-year- old suspect, a resident of Ahungalla, was remanded until April 10.


Public help sought to identify body

The body of a man believed to have been knocked down by a train between Pinwatta and Panadura railway stations was found by Panadura South Police on Wednesday.

The man about 5'6" in height and about 55 years, was attired in a blue sarong and a long sleeved shirt. He had curly hair and a long beard. The body was sent to the Panadura hospital morgue.

Police seek public assistance to identify the body.


Woman arrested with loot

A woman who broke into a house in Moragolla , Galewela to steal a gold chain and a gold coin worth Rs 166,270 was arrested by Dambulla Police with the stolen items in her possession.

Police also found Rs 52,000 she had obtained after pawning the stolen gold coin.

She was produced before the Dambulla Magistrate's Court yesterday.


Three wheeler driver dies in crash

A 33-year-old man died when the three wheeler he was driving, collided with a lorry on Kantale-Trincomalee road on Wednesday night.

The deceased was identified as M Dhanushka Kumara of Kantale. Kantale Police arrested the lorry driver.


Illegal abattoir raided

STF officers attached to Kurukkalpudukulam camp raided an abattoir in Andiyapuliyankulam, Settikulam on Wednesday and arrested six suspects.
