Woman in job racket remanded

The Panadura Police Special Crime and Fraud Bureau arrested a woman who allegedly was involved in a massive fraud of six million rupees promising employment to youth in Japan.

The suspect of Raddoluwa, Seeduwa was produced before the Panadura Chief Magistrate R.S.A. Dissanayake who ordered her to be remanded. OIC Fraud Bureau of the Panadura Police told court that the suspect together with another named Saman had engaged in luring people for employment in Japan. Police investigations revealed that 64 youth had paid money to the woman. They had been taken to Thailand and abandoned there.

The Thailand Police had arrested the youth who had been without visas and kept them in a detention camp for three months. Some of them were deported to Sri Lanka. They had subsequently complained about the job racket to the Sri Lanka Police.

Panadura Police SCIB received complaints against the woman who surrendered to the Police through a lawyer. She was taken into custody and produced before court by police with a 'B' report.
