Handicraft fair

Sinhala and Hindu New Year Handicraft Fair organized by the Shilpa Development Organization will be held at the Battaramulla Janakala centre, Shilpa Village from today to April 9.


New year festival

Sinhala Hindu New year festival of students of Chilaw-Punchiwilaththawa junior school will be held today at 9.30 am at the school playground in the presence of Zonal Education Director A S K Jayalath.

Assistance for 67 families

The Colombo Municipal Council will provide financial assistance for 67 families affected by natural disasters. The families will receive assistance from Mayor A J M Mussammil today at 2.30 pm at the Town Council Hall, Colombo.


Costly journey

A person who was charged with travelling on the foot board of a bus was fined Rs 1,000 by Balapitiya Magistrate Asanga Bodaragama. Ahungalla Police prosecuted.


Sanitary facilities for the needy

The Balangoda Urban Council has implemented a programme to provide sanitary facilities for law income families.

Financial assistance will be provided for needy families under this, UC chairman Nimal Gamini Weerasinghe said.


Mining gems at own risk

A person pleaded guilty to mining for gems in the Walaweganga reservation at Bulathgama in Balangoda without a permit was fined Rs 30,000 by Balangoda Magistrate and District Judge Duminda Mudunkotuwa.

Officials of the Balangoda Forest Range Office prosecuted.


Handicraft sale

The National Craft Council Sinhala and Hindu handicraft sale will be held at the Janakala Centre, Battaramulla today from 9 am to 7 pm.

National Craft Council chairman Buddhi Keertihsena will open the sale today.


Stage drama

Siwamma Danapala, the stage drama directed by Tennyson Cooray will be staged tomorrow at 3.30 pm and 6.30 pm at Sarvodaya Vishva Samadhi Hall, Rawatawatta.

It is organised by the Koralawella Methodist Men's Union.
