Galle MC firm on food standards

The Galle Municipal Council's Medical Office launched a programme to ascertain the quality of food items and beverages sold to the public during the festive season. Food stalls at Supermarkets, trading centres and temporary food outlets will come under the scrutiny of the Municipal Health Officers.

A spokesman for the Galle MOH office said a squad of Health Inspectors has been deployed. Investigators would collect samples of food, drinks and beverages sold at business places and send them to the Additional Government Analyst in Kalutara for laboratory tests.

Legal action would be taken against traders found guilty of selling food items not fit for human consumption.
