Textured Jersey celebrates Earth Hour

Textured Jersey Lanka PLC along with millions of others across Sri Lanka and the globe joined hands on March 23, to switch off non-essential lights at 8.30 p.m. The Company was one of the national partners and the official fabrics provider for Earth Hour Sri Lanka (EHSL).

During Earth Hour on the 23rd, the Company switched off the power, and went a step further by going 'beyond the hour'. Rasika Gunawardana, the Environmental Engineer at Textured Jersey said, "It is not only inside the factory, but we needed to take the message to our homes, to our neighbours, friends and so on."

The Company made early preparations to commemorate Earth Hour 2013 by circulating informative emails about Earth Hour and publishing announcements on its notice boards. The Company also organized a poster campaign in the factory premises in order to create awareness of this worthy cause and to motivate its employees to do their part.

"We decided to go beyond the factory level and carry out our obligation to the general public by creating an awareness campaign. We selected the Ratnapura town as our location for the campaign, which we thought would be ideal for knowledge sharing.

A dedicated team from Textured Jersey participated in the campaign and we received a very positive and encouraging response from the public. Our objective was to spread the message across various communities and individuals so that we create a greater awareness among the public," Rasika Gunawardana further commented.

Textured Jersey is the largest weft knitting fabric mill in Sri Lanka, producing over 30 million meters a year. Textured Jersey employs one of Sri Lanka's most sophisticated production facilities for the manufacture of knitted fabrics for the intimate apparel and active wear industries.

It supplies to top-notch international brands, including Victoria's Secret, Marks and Spencer, Decathlon and Intimissimi, amongst others.

The two major shareholders of the Company are Brandix, Sri Lanka's single largest apparel exporter and Pacific Textiles, a Hong Kong based company with one of the largest manufacturing facilities in China.

A clear leader in environmental protection, Textured Jersey has actively participated in many energy saving and waste reduction initiatives within the factory, which have helped minimize environmental hazards.
