Deputy Mayor in protective custody

The Moratuwa Urban Council Deputy Mayor, arrested in connection with the alleged murder of the Chief Incumbent of Sunanda Upananda Viharaya Ven Metighatenne Vimalawansa Thera, was ordered to be kept in protective custody until February 14 by the Moratuwa magistrate. Ven Metigahathenne Wimalavansa Thera was hacked to death in the temple premises on Sunday.

Two suspects who fled the scene were found shot dead in Bandaragama the following day. Meanwhile, Kalutara South Police and Moratuwa Police arrested seven suspects in connection with the incident yesterday. They were handed over to the Colombo Crimes Division for further investigations.
