The Rotary Club donated medical equipment needed to treat kidney
patients to the Padaviya Base Hospital. The club allocated Rs
27,000,000.
The Padaviya Base Hospital caters to residents around Janakapura,
Padaviya and Welioya of the Mahaweli Zone L.
Harvesting machine set on fire

A harvesting machine was set on fire, according to complaint lodged
at the Kokkaddichcholai Police in the Batticaloa District on Saturday.
The complainant had hired the machine from Potuvil in the Ampara
district.
The Kokkaddicholai Police are investigating.
New bridge in Nava Sangamwewa

A new bridge has been built at Nava Sangamwewa by the Ipalogama
Divisional Secretariat in fulfilling a request made by the residents in
the area.
The bridge costing Rs 1.7 million was built with a Rs 1.2 million
state allocation while the balance was met by the Ipalogama Divisional
Secretariat, said Assistant Director (Planning) N F R Ratnayake.
Carbonic manure under Divineguma

Members of the Suhadagama Chitra K Women’s Organization in the
Nachchaduwa Divisional Secretariat Division have produced 25,000
kilogrammes of carbonic manure under the Divineguma programme under the
specifications of the Makandura Carbonic Fertilizer Production
Institution. The association has made arrangements to sell the
fertilizer at Rs 8 per kilogram to farmers, said association patron R
Appuhamy.
New TRCB chairman
Former Western Provincial Councillor H.A. Wimalasuriya was appointed
new chairman of the Tea, Rubber and Coconut Board (TRCB) by Plantation
Industries Miniser Mahinda Samarasinghe.
Wimalasuriya held the post of working director of the Foreign
Employment Bureau. He is also director of the Coconut Cultivation Board.
Wimalasuriya worked as a journalist. He authored a number of books.
Buddhist talk
Das Meeriyagalle will deliver a public talk in English on “Nanda
Sutta in Devaputta Samyatta” at the meeting of the Servants of the
Buddha society on February 9 at 4.30 p.m. at Maithree Hall, Lauries
Road, Bambalapitiya.
Certificate awarding
Nugawela-Kandy Amunugama Federation will award certificate to 250
students who successfully completed the Korean Language Course and 60
students who completed Chinese Language Course at a ceremony to be held
at the Hedeniya Enrich Hotel auditorium on February 9 at 10.00 a.m.

Vice Principal, students hospitalised after wasp attack

The Vice Principal and 14 students of Medagama Al Irshard College
were hospitalised after they were attacked by wasps in the school
premises on Tuesday.
Nine students were discharged after initial treatment while the Vice
Principal and five students are still receiving treatment at Medagama
Hospital. |
