Ayurveda herbal garden project mooted

The Ruhunu Tourist Bureau has taken measures to commence an Ayurveda
herbal garden project and a new indigenous medicine treatment centre in
the vicinity of Madunagala Hot Spring Project at Sooriyawawa in the
Hambantota district.
Ruhuna Tourist Bureau chairman U G Piyadasa said rare and valuable
medicinal plants such as aralu, bulu, Nellie, ginger, red and white
sandalwood, ekaweriya and savandara will be cultivated here.
Plans are also underway to start an indigenous medical centre close
to the Hot Spring Project, he said.
"Attracting local and foreign tourists, popularising Ayurveda
medicine and treatment methods are the aim and objectives of these
development programmes," Piyadasa said.
He said an allocation of Rs 2.5 million has been made for this .
Funds will be provided by the Southern Provincial Council, Piyadasa
said.
