Sabaragamuwa shines in education
The Sabaragamuwa province has shown a marked improvement in school
education, Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council Assistant Secretary (News)
Sunil Leelananda Perera said.
About 12,583 students of the total 19,157 students who sat for the
Advanced Level examination in 2012 from the Sabaragamuwa Province have
qualified for university admission, he said.
This number as a percentage amounts to 65.63 percent. This is the
highest percentage compared with the other provinces.
About 888 students of the Sabaragamuwa Province obtained 'A' grades
for all three subjects. The average percentage of students who qualified
for university admission in the country is 63.15, Perera said.
He said a few years back, school education levels in the Sabaragamuwa
Province lagged behind many provinces except the Northern and Eastern
Provinces in which the war ravaged.
Special attention has been paid to uplift the education sector by
Sabaragamuwa Province Chief Minister Mahipala Herath in the recent past,
contributing for this achievement, Perera said.
