Independence Day celebrated in Houston
An Independence Day celebration was held in Houston, Texas at the
Houston Buddhist Vihara on February 2.
The celebration included quiz, essay, debate and poster competitions
for the children of the Sri Lankan community in Houston.
The competitions provided an excellent opportunity for the children
to compete for prizes and gain recognition while enhancing the awareness
of Sri Lankan history and its rich cultural values.
These events were followed by the flag hosting ceremony, multi-
religious invocations, speeches and a cultural show.
The cultural show featured singers and dancers from the Sri Lankan -
American community in Houston. Religious leaders, Consul General of Sri
Lanka in Texas, diplomats and dignitaries from the city, state and
federal institutions also participated.
