Old Nalandians SC at cricket
Elaborate plans have been finalized to conduct the Annual Old
Nalandians’ Cricket Tournament on the 10 November 2012 at Bloomfield C &
AC grounds Colombo, commencing at 9.00am. The dynamic committee is
headed by Mahinda Athulathmudali prominent off spinner at Nalanda in
1950 decade and Sara Trophy Player, Jayantha Seneviratne former Sri
Lanka cricketer and Sisira Mendis the President of Old Nalandians’
Sports Club, former DIG confirmed that this year event will be a very
memorable one.
Objectives
The key objectives of this exciting event are:
To create an opportunity for old Nalandians and cricketers in
particular to meet in an exciting atmosphere of sports, fun and frolic.
To meet, greet and strengthen this bonds of friendships .
* To create an opportunity for families of old Nalandians to spend
the day of fun and relaxation, while watching the Nalanda cricket stars
of yester years in action . •:To strengthen the bond between past Ananda
and Nalanda cricketers through the medium of an exhibition cricket
match.
Tournament
* The tournament will be conducted in five age groups and they
are:20-30, 30 -40, 40 -50, 50-60, over 60.
* A final will be played in each age group category.
* The grand finale in addition to presentation of awards to the
respective winners of age groups will be much looked forward to the
encounter between the “60 years olds” of the two leading Buddhist
schools in Sri Lanka Ananda-Nalanda.
Stars in Action
The icing on the cake will be some of all time great cricketers who
brought distinction to the school and pride to the nation with these
combinations to cricket in all forms of the game, such as all time
greats: Stanley Jayasinghe (Ceylon, Lancashire League and Lecstershire
County player), Carl Obeysekare (Ceylon), Bandula Warnapura, Lalith
Kaluperuma, Jayanthe Seneviratne, Hemantha Devapriya, Susantha
Karunaratne, Roshan Mahanama, Shantha Kalavitigoda, Ishara Amarasinghe.
Incidently Stanley Jayasinghe and Carl Obeysekara represented Ceylon
while they were school boys at Nalanda, along with late Ashley de Silva
who was the twelfth man.
In addition to the key forms on the cricket tournament the following
are the highlights:
* Lilting music with a band in attendance
* Special awards to veterans
* Play area for kids
* Food and refreshments stalls
* Nalanda souvenir stall
The chief guest for the occasion will be Col.Ranjith Jayasundara the
Principal of Nalanada College.
The past principals and past prefect of games of Nalanda College will
grace the occasion. |
