Two drown, one missing while bathing

Three persons drowned while bathing in the sea and in Thelgamuwa Oya on Sunday.

Two of them succumbed at Nagoda hospital while being treated after having admitted when they got into difficulty while bathing at Diyalagoda beach with a group of friends. A A Charith Wasantha, 20, and G L A Sumith Priyankara, 28, of Maggona died in the incident.

The Navy and Police life savers have commenced a search operation to find the body of another person drowned while bathing in Thelgamuwa Oya in Laggala. The deceased was identified as 39-year-old Nishantha Samarasinghe of Mallawapitiya, Kurunegala.

Five bodies found

The Police have found five bodies of men in several locations on Sunday. Kalutara South Police found a body of a man floating in Kalu Ganga behind Jumma Masjith Mosque in Wettamudaya.

The man appearing to be around 60-years-old was wearing a blue short sleeved shirt. The body had been eaten by animals below waist. Meanwhile, the body of a 25 year old man who had been reported missing since October 30, was found in a scrub near a hermitage in Mahamedagama in Thalathuoya. The Police led investigations after a complaint lodged by the deceased's father stating that his son, D M Dhammika Bandara had gone missing since last Tuesday. Thalathuoya Police are investigating.

Meanwhile, acting on information received, Ambalangoda Police found the decomposed body of a man in a pit in a jungle in Kuligoda, Ambalangoda. Police detected a mobile phone, a National ID card bearing the name, K P D Kumara Tabrew, of Wathuregama, Galle, aged 25 and a pair of slippers believed to be of the deceased's near the body. The body was sent to Karapitiya hospital morgue. Meanwhile, a body of a man was found stuck in a rock crevice beneath the sluice gates of Parani Wewa, Weheragala in Padaviya on the same day. The head had been detached in the decomposed body. He was wearing a white denim and a blue and black T-shirt with - Sri Lanka Army 60th Aniversary - printed on it.

The body was sent to Anuradhapura hospital morgue. Padaviya Police are investigating. Meanwhile, the fifth body was found floating in the sea at Galle Face beach by Colombo Fort Police. The man with long hair appears to be around 45-50-years-old and was wearing a red underwear. Further investigations are continuing.
