Main suspect in ID fraud case remanded

A special police team attached to the Maradana Police led by Inspector Neomal Fernando, OIC MO Branch Maradana Police, deployed by Western Province Senior DIG Anura Senanayake arrested the main suspect in the National Identity Cards fraud case.

The suspect was later produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate L Liyanarachchi and remanded until the completion of the ongoing investigations.

The two suspects arrested earlier who are alleged to have printed forged National Identity Cards at a house in the Maradana Police area were also produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate who remanded them until the completing of the investigations.

A special police team led by Inspector Neomal Fernando, OIC MO Branch Maradana Police also seized several items, including a computer, used by the suspects to print the forged National Identity Cards.

According to the Police investigations, the suspects charge about Rs.35,000 to prepare a forged National Identity Card.

Investigations are being conducted by Senior SP Maxie Proctor assisted by SP Ranjith Dayananda with Maradna Police OIC Lucian Sooriyabandara, PS Somaratne, PCs Asela, Dimarage and Warnasuriya of the Maradana Police.
