Eriyawetiya, Kelaniya is reported missing from home since October 10.

Mahindaramaya Katina Pinkama
The annual Katina Pinkama of the Sri Mahindaramaya, Maradana, Colombo
10 will be held on November 9 and 10 under the patronage of
Viharadhipathi Ven Mapalane Dhammaloka Nayake Thera.
It is organised by the Principal, staff, parents and the Old Girls’
Union of Gothami Balika Vidyalaya and members of the viharaya dayaka
sabaha.
An all night Pirith ceremony to mark the event will be held on
November 9. The katina cheevara pooja will be held on November 10
morning followed by a sangika dana in the forenoon.
The katina anusasana dhammadesana will be delivered by Ven Dr
Brahmanawatte Seevali Anunayake Thera the same day at 5pm.
Russian School of Art exhibition
The students of the Russian School of Art will exhibit their talents
on canvas from November 7 to 14 from 3pm at the Russian Centre.
The students are aged between four and 15 and were coached by Arjuna
Jayasinghe for the past five years at the Russian School of Art. Eighty
canvas drawings will be on display, all the work of over 50 students.

Scholarship awarding ceremony
The Alhaj SMM Hussain Charitable Trust under the auspices of the
Moors Islamic Cultural Home will award scholarships to deserving
students who excelled in the GCE OL examination. The ceremony to award
scholarships will take place today at 4pm at the A A M Mardeen Hall,
MICH Building, Wellawatte, Colombo 6.
Sri Lanka - Thailand Nite 2012
The Sri Lanka - Thailand Nite 2012 will be held on November 13 at
6.30pm at Siam House- Thai Restaurant, Colombo 4. It will be held under
the patronage of Thai ambassador Poldej Worachat and Kanyarat Worachat.
Korea Association AGM
The 41st Annual General Meeting of the Sri Lanka – Republic of Korea
Association will be held on November 17 at 5pm at Sea View Hotel, 15,
Sea View Avenue, Colombo 3. A fellowship and dinner will follow the AGM.

All unauthorised constructions and safari jeeps have been removed
from the Yala National Sanctuary, on the instructions of President
Mahinda Rajapaksa.
There had been several unauthorised camping sites in the sanctuary
run by private sector organisations, which posed threats to the wild
animals. Charges amounting to US $38 were charged from each foreigner to
spend a day at these camping sites.
Yala Park Warden W.A.A.D.U. Indrajith said that Leopet, Kotin, and
Kulu removed their camping sites on orders issued to them.
Kalu Ganga water level rise

The rising water level of the Kalu Ganga following incessant rains in
the Kalutara district has inundated several low-lying areas during the
last few days. Large extents of paddy fields have been submerged
disrupting agricultural activities.
Rubber tapping,quarrying, brick, toddy and other industries have also
been hampered affecting the livelihood of a large number.
Livestock farming in coconut lands

Livestock farming is being encouraged on small and medium scale
coconut lands in Kurunegala and Puttalam Districts by the North Western
Provincial Agriculture Department to provide additional benefits for
coconut cultivators.
Provincial Agriculture Ministry sources said under this scheme, the
coconut lands will get natural fertilizer and land owners will get an
additional income.
The scheme will enable the land owners to breed an improved stock of
animals.
Bull calves and buffaloes will be issued to land owners from
government farms, the sources said. |
