Drop in power consumption

Daily power consumption has been reduced by 30 percent due to the prevailing rainy situation, Electricity Board System Control Division revealed.

Cool weather conditions have resulted in less electricity consumption since the use of air-conditioners and electric fans has decreased when compared to other days.

Besides, the use of TV and other electrical appliances have also been reduced as a result of the heavy thunder and lightning activity during the evening period.

The average daily electricity demand is 36 Gwh (Giga watt hours). However, that demand dropped to 26 Gwh during the last three days.

Meanwhile, the certain reservoirs, including Kotmale, Maussakele and Castlereigh have reached spill level, but the water levels at Victoria, Samanalawewa and Randenigala is still at 30 percent.
