Safeguards against lightning to be adopted

A circular has been sent to all school heads in the country by the Education Ministry, instructing Principals to educate school children and school teachers, on the vital need of taking preventive measures against risks of thunder and lighting presently being experienced.

Due to thunder and lightning, about 45 persons including children have been killed during the past ten months. The circular specifies that school teachers should not conduct classes under trees or in the open air on days when rainy weather is likely to take place.

Disasters can be prevented if common sense is used in school premises and outside by both teachers and students, the circular has specified.
