Three deaths, 261 houses damaged, 6,073 displaced:

Rain havoc in Kalutara

Earth slip blocks Haputale - Beragala main road
The Haputale - Beragala main road in Pahala Galkanda at 186/10 kilometre post has been blocked following an earth slip on Thursday around 11pm. Motorists are requested to travel along Beragala, Haputale, Bandarawela , Kumbulwela, Ella and Wellawaya roads.
Meanwhile, two line rooms in Balakaduwa, Matale were destroyed when a mound of earth collapsed on them.
No one was injured.
Meanwhile, the road along Dekatana – Colombo, Biyagama was submerged after the Kelani Ganga overflowed on Thursday.
Around 3,500 persons belonging to 700 families have been displaced.
The Biyagama divisional secretariat, disaster management officers and Biyagama Police provided temporary shelter to affected families.
Motorists and pedestrians are requested not to use the Colombo - Dekatana road at Malwana town, Rakshapana, Yabaraluwa, Biyagama junction, Bandarawaththa junction and Jayanthi Mawatha until the water recedes.
Meanwhile, Kandy road via Kaduwela at 13 mile post has also been submerged.
Meanwhile, 26 houses in Wele Handiya and Bomeriya in Nawagamuwa have also gone underwater.
Sixty five displaced persons have been provided sheltered at Bomeriya Kumarathunga Vidyalaya.
The Colombo - Avissawella road in Wele Handiya has also been affected.
Motorists have been told to use optional routes.

Three people died, 261 house were damaged and 6,073 persons displaced in the Kalutara district due to rain and floods in the area, the National Disaster Relief Service Centre said in a release yesterday. District Secretary U D C Jayalal instructed provincial secretaries to assist those affected. The three deaths were due to either drowning or falling from trees in Beruwala, Horana and Bulathsinhala, the release said.

The majority of displaced families are from Panadura and Wallallavita Provincial Secretariat areas.

Fifty nine houses were damaged in Kalutara, 48 in Bandaragama and 51 in Panadura, the release said.
