Six Officers and 38 Cadet Officers of the Military Forces in South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation
(SAA RC) countries, currently on a goodwill visit to Sri Lanka, called on Army Commander Lieutenant General
Jagath Jayasuriya at his office on Monday. These officers from Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan during their 2 week-long stay in Sri Lanka will visit Temple Trees, PM’s Office, Navy and Air Force Commanders shortly and visit
places of interest across the country before they join the annual Herman Loose Camp at Rantembe.


Wanted suspects detained

Two wanted underworld criminals who had been arrested by Maligawatta Police were produced before the Colombo Additional Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday. On an application by OIC Crimes Maligawatta SI Wimal Devanarayana, the magistrate ordered the two suspects be detained pending the completion of investigations.

Abduction issue: ‘investigations impartial’

The investigations led by Dehiwala Police in connection with an incident where a couple was arrested for abducting seven persons in Piliyandala on Friday have not been carried out with any bias, said Police Media Spokesman SSP Prishantha Jayakodi.

Five fishermen attacked:

Fishing trawler seized in Southern seas

A multi-day fishing trawler that left the shores of Kudawella in Tangalle had been seized by alleged human smugglers who also hacked and injured the five fishermen on board before fleeing with the skipper of the trawler. The incident occurred in the wee hours of yesterday in the deep sea near Tangalle.

Lankan held over mobile phone burglaries

Sharjah Police arrested a 30-year-old Sri Lankan national allegedly involved in a series of burglaries in mobile phone outlets in various parts of the emirate. He was arrested after a Moroccan shop owner lodged a complaint about an unknown person who broke into his shop and stole the mobile phones displayed for sale.
