Rahuala in exciting four wicket win

R a College Matara won their under-17 division one second round match against Joseph Vaz college Wennappuwa by four wickets. The match was played at the Jayasuriya grounds Matara last Monday. Over night rain limited it to 28 overs per team.

Joseph Vaz put in to bat fist lost their opener in the very first ball of the day and were 7/87 in the 20th over when Madusanka Kumara 48 off 27 balls (five sixes and a four) and Hasanka Rathnayaka 24 not out put on 73 runs for the 8th wicket. Joseph Vaz were 166/8 at the end of their 28 overs.

Rahula scored the required runs in 23.4 overs. Skipper Piushan Kulatunga scored 40 runs off 27 balls (four fours and three sixes) to set the pace. Hasanka Rathnayaka surprised the home team by his

exceptional ability to bowl off spinners using his right arm as well as his left.

Joseph Vaz: 166/8 in 28 overs (Madusanka Kumara 48, Sandaru Ranasingha 34, Hasanka Rathnayaka 24 not out, Piushan Kulathunga 2/19, Rukshan Perera 2/33)

Rahula: 170/6 in 23.4 overs (Piushan Kulathunga 40, Dakshina Trishan 28 not out, Rukshan Gunawardena 28, Harsha Rajapaksa 20, Shehan Fernando 1/8)
