Man held for girl's death

A 25-year- old man was arrested by Weligama Police for allegedly killing a six - year - old girl by attacking her with a mammoty at Kottegoda on Tuesday. Fathima Apra of Kottegoda, Weligama died in the incident. The body was sent to the Matara hospital morgue for the post- mortem.

Weligama Police are investigating.


Man dies after being knocked down by train

Kollupitiya Police commenced investigations after a man died after he was knocked down by a train.

The incident occurred in Bambalapitiya. The train plying from Maradana to Galle had knocked down W A S Sanjeewa Wijesundara,28, of Depanama, Pannipitiya on Tuesday.

His body was found lying on the rail track. The post- mortem was conducted yesterday.


Body found in pit

Kuruwita Police found the body of a man in a mining pit in a paddy field in Urupelawwa, Kithanagahadeniya on Tuesday. The body of G M Ranjith Amarakeerthi, 33, of Pathegama, Punsirigama was sent to the Ratnapura Hospital morgue for the post- mortem.

The man is said to be a mentally retarded person, Police said.


Arrested with heroin

The Mirihana Special Crime Investigations Unit on Tuesday arrested a suspect with 45.390 grams of heroin at Attidiya. The suspect, a resident of Mount Lavinia, was handed over to Mount Lavinia Police for further investigations.


Four illegal immigrants arrested

The Navy arrested four persons while illegally sailing to Australia in a trawler in Point Pedro on Tuesday.

The suspects, residents of Point Pedro, Trincomalee and Poonerin were handed over to Police.
