Another 43 bound for Australia arrested

Forty three persons attempting to illegally migrate to Australia from Negombo were arrested by the Navy along with a trawler on Tuesday.

The trawler named Wasana was intercepted by Naval troops in Negombo and was escorted to the Modera Fisheries Harbour. Thirty three Tamils including two children and 10 Sinhalese were among those arrested.

The total number apprehended by the Navy during this year is 871.

Navy and Police sources said over 1,000 individuals have been arrested so far this year while attempting to illegally migrate to Australia.

These illegal migrants were handed over to the CID for further investigations.
