Security Forces launch several Northern educational programmes

Jaffna Security Forces launched several programmes for the
improvement of school education in Jaffna recently.
The Security Forces Jaffna (SFJ) opened a computer centre at J/223
Vittakapuram Grama Niladhari’s office to promote IT knowledge of
students in the Thelippalei, Vittakapuram, Kolankallady and Mavaikallady
areas.
This new computer lab was established by the 515 Brigade as a measure
to develop infrastructure of villages where new resettlement took place
after re-establishment of peace in the country.
A private bank responding to a request of the Army donated five new
computers to this new lab through the Bank. These projects were
initiated on the concept of Commander SF-J Major General Mahinda
Hathurusinghe.
An officer of the Security Forces Headquarters Jaffna said that Grade
5 scholarship examination oriented seminar was organized in the Point
Pedro (PPD) education region by the 521 Brigade at Thumpalai
Sivaprakasam school. The seminar was attended by 185 students of eight
schools and their teachers.
Necessary books, pens, pencils and other rerquirements were provided
by the Army with sponsorship well-wishers.
A Reading Camp was organized to school children to creat an apetite
for reading at Pullopallai Roman Catholic Tamil Mixed school in the 55
Division of Vettalaikerni on July 30 to coincide with the National
Reading Month. National Library and Dicumentation Services Board (NLDSB)
sponsored the Reading Camp where different interesting programmes had
been arranged including lectures to educate students on the importance
of reading. Seventy five students, twenty five teachers, nine Army
officers and thirty other ranks participated in this one day Reading
Camp.
Reading materials and other required items were provided free by the
552 Brigade.
The Headquarters 55 Division with the assistance of the NLDSB donated
books worth of Rs. 100,000 to libraries of 10 selected schools in the 55
Division area.
