No polls violence in A’pura

No incidents of election violence have been reported from the Anuradhapura district, a spokesman for the Anuradhapura District Elections Office said yesterday.

However, reports have been received of about 27 incidents involving the breach of election laws, up to August 14. These included the use of state vehicles and state offices being used for election propaganda work, among others. Steps have been taken to counter such incidents as well, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, Anuradhapura Government Agent District Returning Officer Mahinda Seneviratne directed police to take stern action against any public servant or corporation and state sector employees found misusing state vehicles for election work or engaging in election propaganda during office hours.
