He operated the mobile colour light stand at an auspicious time
opposite his school with the participation of a large gathering.
Asurumuni is also the inventor of an echo- friendly chalk duster.
Describing how he invented the mobile colour light stand, Asurumuni
said: "I saw on television how a man was knocked down by a vehicle while
crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing in the presence of traffic
police.
"This compelled me to invent the mobile colour light stand.
"Police officers control traffic in the sun and while raining. They
can now be away from the road and control traffic comfortably with a
remote control."
The boy said he used only discarded material such as used paint
containers, old torch parts, a part of a fan, a remote control of a toy
car, a plastic box, conduit pipes etc to make the mobile colour light
stand.
The mobile colour light stand enables traffic police to operate it
from a distance. This allows him or her to be away from the traffic
floor which might put him or her in danger. The hands fixed in the stand
give clear signals with an alarm. Even the blind can cross the road
safely when the alarm is on, he said.
Impressed by the new mobile colour light stand, Matugama St Mary's
Principal Jayasiri Gajadeera said: "Didula has made the school proud
twice in the recent past. We always encourage students to come up with
inventions."
Asurumuni has also been commended by IGP N K Illangakoon who has
encouraged him to improve it further so that it could be used mainly in
the vicinity of schools.
The boy hopes to apply for a patent for his product shortly. |
