Sailors enter FA Cup final

The Navy SC, after a tough and exciting battle, defeated five times champions Ratnam SC by 1-0 in the fist semi final at the City Football Grounds on Saturday to enter the final of the Holcim FA Cup 2012. The victory of the quarter final match between SL Army vs SL Police that was to replay from where it was stopped, was awarded to SL Army due to the absence of the Police team.

So the sailors will meet the winners of the second semi final between Renown SC and Army SC which will be played on August 4 at City Football Grounds.

In the first semi final on Saturday, sailors took control of the game and penetrated the opponent area a few times but were well defended by Ratnam defenders. The match went until the 51st minute without scores until Malik Migara headed a ball which came from Thilanka Nandasiri.

Though Ratnam took every effort even with 10 men after one of their players had to go out for the second offense, it was Sailors secured a 1-0 victory to enter the final. G.N. Robesh refereed.
