Police posts at District Secretariats to monitor polls incidents

The Police will implement a special security programme at District Secretariat level to detect election law violations, Police Media Spokesman SP Ajith Rohana said. He said Police will set up special police checkpoints near District Secretariats to monitor election related incidents until election day.

Navy intercepts two more Australia-bound boats

The Navy arrested 103 persons while attempting to flee to Australia illegally along with three multi-day vessels in two incidents. In the first incident, the Navy arrested two multi-day trawlers named Maria Thindari and Ashen Putha when they were intercepted off Negombo while the other named Samantha Thathsarani was intercepted off Trincomalee.

Husband clubs wife to death

A husband who suspected his wife had a clandestine love affair with a youth clubbed her and dumped her into a well to pretend she committed suicide. The victim was P M Vajira Jayanthimal aged 40, a mother of two in Ihala Tharana village in the Bingiriya police area of Kurunegala.
