Parliament, the path to a solution - President

‘Collective solution should be arrived at through a process of consultation’:

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said yesterday that the solution to the issues faced by our communities resides in Parliament, where all relevant parties must parley together and arrive at a consensual remedy, since the problem is of a national nature. “This is not my personal problem, it is a problem faced by the country. Therefore a collective solution should be arrived at through a process of consultation, involving all relevant parties. In fact, these parties are duty-bound to help out in this effort,” the President explained during his monthly breakfast meeting with newspaper Editors and senior personnel of media organisations.

‘No room for petty politics’

President Mahinda Rajapaksa yesterday emphasized that he will not allow petty minded politicians to benefit by harping on the ethnic issue. “Petty politics shattered the harmony and peace which existed 30 years ago, among all communities be it from North or South. A series of meetings in support of the UPFA candidates contesting the Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council elections were addressed by External Affairs Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris over the weekend in the Ratnapura district. In Eheliyagoda he addressed a meeting attended by Minister Pavithra Wanniaratchi and Provincial Councillor Kanchane Jayaratna. In Ratnapura, with Minister John Seneviratne, he spoke to graduates. He addressed the Kalawana Bala Mandaleya with Janaka Wakkumbura, MP.

Rally round the UPFA - Former CM

Former chief minister Maheepala Herath addressing the inaugural election campaign in the Rambukkana electorate said no other leader in the country was capable of putting an end to the ferocious LTTE war. It was President Mahinda Rajapaksa who did it successfully. The international community is up in arms against Sri Lanka because LTTE terrorism was brought to an end.
