Joseph Vaz - under 15 group champions


Avishka Fernando

Joseph Vaz College having won all five matches in the first round of the inter-school Under 15 division one Cricket Tournament conducted by Sri Lanka Schools Cricket Association has emerged as champions of the group and has qualified for the second round. They have fielded an allround side and won all the matches with ease and they have become the leading cricket playing school in this age group in the Puttalam District.

Their team is captained by second year all-rounder and left arm Spinner Avishka Fernando. During the course of the first round his bowling was an asset to the team and he claimed 19 wickets at a cost of 92 runs at a healthy average of 4.84.

His figures were 4 for 25 versus Maliyadeva, 2 for 12 against Ibbagamuwa Central, 5 for 13 versus St Xaviers, 3 for 35 versus Royal Polonnaruwa and the best analysis of 5 for 7 against St Annes, Kurunegala. He is coached by Tharanga Liyanapathirana.
